An evening webinar presented by Carrie Campbell, Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry/Hon Senior Clinical Lecturer

Aim

This webinar will consider the various approaches available to manage dental fear and anxiety (DFA) in children requiring dental care and when it is appropriate to use them.

Objectives

  • To introduce practical ways to engage children and their parents with DFA in general practice
  • To discuss examples of methods which improve co-operation in children
  • To discuss treatment options for children with acute dental pain
  • To ensure dentists know how this may link with existing referral pathways in Lanarkshire

Learning Outcomes

  • To be able to assess DFA in children and engage these families
  • To know when and how to use techniques which improve child co-operation and hence help with caries management (including those which are based in cognitive behavioural therapy theory).
  • To be aware of and be able to provide other treatment options rather than general anaesthesia (GA) referral
  • To understand the referral pathway – when and how to refer
